He moved into the area of public health in 1995 when he joined the Epidemiology and Disease Control Unit of the Community Health Services Division, Ministry of Health. After completion of his public health training, he was appointed public health specialist in December 1997, and became Head of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Unit in 1999. In this capacity he managed the national tuberculosis, malaria, disease control and surveillance programmes, and actively participated in public health related TB/HIV research co-authoring several papers in this area. He was transferred to the Ministry of Health headquarters as Deputy Director Health Services in 2001, and served in this capacity until his appointment as Deputy Permanent Secretary in 2004.
Dr Moeti brings extensive experience in public health, in-depth knowledge of the health system in Botswana, as well as several years experience of working with development partners in the health arena, both in-country and in the regional context in the areas of programme management and public health policy.
Dr Moeti holds Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS) degrees from the Royal free Hospital School of Medicine, and a Master of Science degree in Public Health in Developing Countries from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London.
