Mr. Greeley has been involved in a number of the company’s HIV/AIDS initiatives, including on a number of HIV/AIDS access programs, as a member of the AIDS Grants Committee of the Merck Office of Corporate Contributions; as a senior advisor on HIV/AIDS, access and intellectual property issues; in developing and implementing Merck’s HIV/AIDS product pricing initiatives; in developing the company’s HIV/AIDS in the Workplace Policy; and in communicating with external audiences about Merck’s position on various HIV/AIDS policy and access initiatives, corporate social responsibility and public-private partnerships. Mr. Greeley was Merck’s senior representative on the USG led Congressional Delegation to Mexico, Brazil and Jamaica in 2003. He has participated in a number of events along with USG officials highlighting Merck’s contribution to addressing HIV/AIDS in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Before joining Merck in 1998, Mr. Greeley worked for over 15 years with non-governmental organizations, including Population Services International and CARE. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa, and worked in the economic section of the US Embassy in Zaire in 1984, as a State Department Summer Intern. Mr. Greeley has travelled extensively around the world, having been to over 85 countries. He has lived and worked for five years each in Asia and Africa, including extended stays in India, Indonesia, Burkina Faso and Niger. Many of these years were spent on HIV/AIDS prevention initiatives. At PSI, Mr. Greeley was responsible for developing new proposals including in the area of social marketing and communication projects to address HIV/AIDS, soliciting donor funding and host country support for them, and, for two and one-half years in India, managing and implementing such projects.

David Greeley obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Brandeis University in 1981 and his Masters Degree in International Relations from Columbia University in 1985. He is a native English speaker, speaks fluent French, and conversational Spanish and Indonesian.
