VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The African
Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Partnerships (ACHAP) is a country-led, public-private
development partnership between the Government of Botswana, the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Merck Company Foundation/Merck & Co.,
Inc., dedicated to supporting and enhancing Botswana’s national response to
HIV/AIDS.
Our mission is to
support Botswana’s national comprehensive HIV/AIDS strategy to prevent
new HIV infections and reduce the morbidity and mortality of HIV/AIDS.
We do this in
collaboration with government, civil society, development partners and the
private sector by facilitating the development and implementation of strategic
initiatives and providing human, technical and financial resources. In line
with this strategy, the position of Safe
Male Circumcision Project Coordinator has become available to support the
Ministry of Health under its HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care Department. This position
will be tenable on a fixed term contract basis and will entail travel within
and outside the country.
A competitive package on ACHAP terms and conditions of employment will
be offered. The successful position holder will be an ACHAP
employee seconded to the Ministry of Health.
SAFE MALE CIRCUMCISION PROJECT COORDINATOR
Reporting to the Director,
Department HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care through STI unit, the position holder
will manage and coordinate implementation of Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) add
on strategy for HIV Prevention in the country. The officer will be responsible
for planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of
interventions related to safe male circumcision initiatives at national,
district, health facility and community levels.
ROLES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø
Coordinate
implementation of a national Safe Male Circumcision strategy for HIV
prevention.
Ø Develop the safe male
circumcision plan, monitor its implementation and
guide surveillance and research-related activities to inform implementation of
the plan.
Ø Provide technical support to DHTs
for integrating Safe Male Circumcision
programmes into district plans
Ø Liaise with Department of
Clinical Services to monitor implementation of Male Circumcision MOH and MOLG
plans and implement training of Health care providers on Safe Male Circumcision
Ø Coordinate all community based
related Safe Male Circumcision activities and facilitate implementation
Ø Coordinate development and
production of IEC materials and messages to support plan implementation in
collaboration with relevant partners at national and district levels.
Ø Collaborate with key stakeholders
and Non-Governmental Organisations to promote public understanding, awareness
that facilitate utilisation of Safe Male Circumcision services
Ø Develop and coordinate
implementation of a monitoring and evaluation system for tracking progress in
Safe Male Circumcision for HIV and STI prevention interventions.
Ø Identify research needs related
to Safe Male Circumcision and HIV/AIDS prevention interventions and facilitate
execution of operational research.
Ø Prepare monthly, quarterly and
annual reports on Safe Male Circumcision related to HIV/AIDS/STI prevention
activities
Ø Perform any other duties as may
be assigned by management
EXPERIENCE, DESIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Ø
The
incumbent should have at least 5 years experience working in Public Health,
HIV/AIDS or STI related programmes at a management or senior level
Ø
He/She
should have good management, communication, negotiation, interpersonal and
advocacy skills.
Ø
He/she
should be flexible and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
Ø
Degree
in Medicine with post graduate degree in Public Health or equivalent
